As Christians we believe that God created
the world, including humanity, so that we could enjoy living in relationship
with Him and with each other. We believe that he loves each one of us
passionately, and wants to to know and enjoy the fullness of life which
can only come from knowing we are loved by Him. However, as humans we
have often turned our backs on God and rejected His offers of love. At
the same time we have often rejected each other, and been more worried
about serving our own self-interests and greed than the needs of people
around us. This is the sin which has caused so much suffering in the world.
The Good News which we read in the Bible is that God has not given up
on us, but sent His son, Jesus to live on earth. He showed and taught
us what life could be like if we returned to God. In particular, he talked
about the 'Kingdom of Heaven' - that time and place where we will all
be reconciled with God and able to live with Him as he originally intended.
The Bible tells us that at that time there will be no more pain, no more
suffering and no more tears in our world.
Jesus often taught against the use of violence and the power of money and
authority. Not surprisingly, that teaching wasn't too popular(!) and
eventually he was tortured and killed for the things he was saying. However,
the Bible tells us that after three days Jesus rose to life again, conquering
death and then later returning to his place with God in heaven. Christians believe
that in doing this, Jesus bridged the gap that had come between us and God. In his
death and resurrection he bore the suffering and sin of the world and has
given us a chance to be reconciled with God - to return to the way things
were meant to be, to be able to enjoy being loved by God and loving Him in return.
Now, anyone who wants to can ask for and receive God's forgiveness and love in their lives.
As a church, we try be a community of people living in the light of this Good News. We try
to live as we think God wants us to - loving each other, serving each other and
looking out for each other's needs. At the same time we want to love and serve the local community
around us and the wider world in whatever ways we can. Obviously we don't always
get things right - we all mess up sometimes. However, as a community journeying
together we recognise that life is someties hard and try to support each other on that journey,
both through laughing together and crying together.
We would love it if you would like to join us on this journey. We don't always
have the answers, but promise that you will find a warm welcome and a group of friends trying to seek
the answers together.
As a church we seek...
- To be known as a worshipping and caring fellowship of believers
- To encourage personal commitment to Jesus Christ
- To nurture all to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ
- To reach out to the local community with the good news of Jesus Christ
- To seek God's justice and peace in the wider world
We are members of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the London Baptist Association. We also support, through giving and prayer, the work of BMS World Mission, Home Mission, the Bible Society and Christian Aid.
